LAHORE: The Bhagat Singh Memorial Foundation will mark the 96th death anniversary of the martyrs of Jallianwala Bagh on Monday (today) at 11.30am.
The participants, under the banner of the foundation, will gather on the lawns of the Lahore High Court Bar Association and organize a candlelight vigil to pay homage to the martyrs. According to foundation’s chairman Imtiaz Rashid Qureshi, former Supreme Court Bar Association president and eminent rights’ activist Asma Jahangir, retired Justice Malik Saeed Hasan and retired Justice Fakhurnissa Khokhar will speak the audience.
“The April 13 recalls a massive bloodshed at Jallianwala Bagh by the British imperialism that claimed lives of many people in 1919,” Mr Qureshi said in a statement on Sunday.
He said Bhagat Singh was 12 years of age at that time and he had sworn by kissing clay of Jallianwala Bagh that he would get the subcontinent rid of the British imperialism.
And in coming years, Mr Singh made his pledge true by offering his life, he said.
