KMC restrained from razing wedding lawnArchive
KARACHI: The Sindh High Court on Monday restrained the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation from razing a wedding lawn in Bahadurabad.
A two-judge bench headed by Justice Syed Hasan Azhar Rizvi gave the restraining order on a petition filed by Orenz Events Management Company against the civic authorities apprehending that they would demolish its lawn.
The bench issued notices to the chief secretary, KMC administrator, head of the KMC’s anti-encroachment cell and others to file comments on the petition, and put off hearing to April 27.
The counsel for the petitioner firm stated that in 2011 the Bahadur Yar Jung Cooperative Housing Society had leased out a plot in Block 3 of Bahadurabab to Bahadurabad Club Private Limited to set up a welfare club for the society members.
Subsequently, he said, the club management, to run its affairs smoothly and meet expenses, entered into an agreement with the petitioner and allotted a portion of the club to the petitioner to establish a wedding lawn.
After expiry of the lease, it was renewed for two years in February 2015, the counsel added.
He further submitted that the minister for the local government had launched action against encroachments on the city’s amenity plots and the KMC wanted to raze the petitioner’s lawn in the garb of the campaign.
The petitioner’s counsel told the judges that KMC officers visited the lawn and made illegal demands from the staff there. He said the petitioner had learnt that its lawn would be demolished as the demands of the KMC officials were not fulfilled.
The petitioner asked the court to restrain the civic authorities from demolishing the petitioner’s wedding lawn.
