Wapda secure hockey win against PIA Whites
LAHORE: Wapda on Tuesday beat PIA Whites 5-4 at the sudden death stage during the 10th Nishan-e-Haider Hockey Tournament at the Dring Stadium, Bahawalpur.
Wapda took the lead as their Zubair Riaz successfully deflected the ball on a rebound in the 33rd minute to give 1-0 lead to his team. However, PIA White came back in the match by earning equaliser in the 46th minute through Waseem Akram with no more goals being scored by either side due to which five penalty-strokes were awarded to each side.
At the shoot-out stage both teams cashed in on three each to remain at 4-4. However, PIA’s Zubair failed to sound the board while Wapda’s Irfan netted it cleanly to earn for his team a close win. Wapda earned a cash prize of Rs100,000 besides winning the trophy while the PIA pocketed Rs50,000.

Victorious polo squad returns
LAHORE: The Pakistan U-18 junior polo squad has returned home after winning the practice match against their Thailand counterparts 9-3 on the latter’s home soil.
Agha Musa, Dabboo Khan Niazi and Hayat Mahmood scored three goals each for Pakistan.
It is the first time that a junior polo team from Pakistan visited abroad. The juniors also attended back-to-back coaching courses there, which were conducted by American coach Rege Ludwig, based in Thailand. He is also the national coach of Thailand.
It may be mentioned here that the young players have been coached by renowned players Agha Murtaza Ali and Shah Qubilai Alam during the last five years. Earlier, the juniors team also played some practice games.

Seven-goal Taimur shines
LAHORE: Seven-goal Taimur Ali Malik helped Hala Bhai Chaury beat Diamond Paints 10-5 ½ on the opening day of the Bronze Polo Cup here on Tuesday.
The losing side having half goal handicap made a good start taking 4 ½-3 lead in the first two chukkers with Ali Malik and Mir Huzaifa striking a goal each while Taimur and Feroze Gulzar fired one each for the winners.
The third chukker saw Taimur in terrific form for he turned the tables on the losing side by banging home with three goals as his team-mate Feroze also scored his second to take the lead for the first time to 7- 4 ½.
The winners powered three more in the fourth chukker including two from Taimur and one from Hassan Ali Farrukh. Ali Malik hit the consolation goal for the losing side.—Sports Reporter
Hazara United edge past Muslim Star
KARACHI: Hazara United FC scored a narrow victory over Muslim Star FC by 1-0 in a thrilling clash on Tuesday at the All Karachi Muslim Khatri Association Golden Jubilee Football Tounament at the Hussaini Football Ground.
After a barren first half which saw both teams displaying high quality soccer but without convertig thhe scoring chances, Abdul Ghafoor finally broke the stalemate to give Hazara United the lead by scoring a fine goal on the 50th minute off a penalty kick.
