ON May 4 newspapers carried a report that a Rs5,000 reward has been announced for police officials who seized explosive materials from two terrorists who wanted to attack a Shiite religious gathering in Gujjar Khan.
The question is, why has such a meagre amount been deemed sufficient to acknowledge the heroism of those policemen who did certainly foil a bloodbath? Don’t these policemen deserve more than this? How do we expect to raise the morale of our policemen, engaged in battling terrorism alongside other security personnel, with such a negligible amount?
