Couple lynching: LHC seeks challan on bail plea of accusedArchive
LAHORE: A division bench of the Lahore High Court on Wednesday adjourned hearing of bail applications of the seven accused in the Kot Radha Kishan incident and directed the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) head to submit a copy of the challan.
The bench headed by Justice Syed Mazahar Ali Akbar Naqvi passed the orders while hearing bail applications of accused, including Haris Bashir, Waqas Bashir, Usman Sindhu, Tajamal Husain, Muhammad Hanif and Nisar Ahmad.
JIT head DIG Akhtar Umar Hayat Lalika told the bench that police had submitted the final challan to the trial court after completing the investigation. He said that 101 people had been declared guilty in the challan.
The bench directed the JIT head to submit a copy of the challan and apprise the court of the progress made during the investigation while adjourning the matter.
The petitioners through five identical bail applications pleaded the bench to grant them benefit of bail as the allegations levelled against them were frivolous and baseless. They contended that there was neither any evidence nor any witness against them.
An enraged mob on Nov 4 had beaten to death Shama and her spouse, Shahzad, at a village near Kot Radha Kishan and later burnt their bodies in the furnace of a brick kiln.
