Dance Day festival on 17thArchive
LAHORE: A ‘Dance Day Manao’ or celebrate the dance day will be held on May 17 at Alhamra Art Centre, The Mall, where performances of eminent classical, folk, sufi and modern dancers of Pakistan will be showcased.
This rich dance show featuring all genres of dance is being held by Lahore Arts Council in collaboration with the Institute of Performing Arts. Before the performances, there will be a discourse on classical dance in Pakistan where leading dancers of the country will speak their minds on the particular topic. This event will feature 40 or so performers.
The Alhamra Centre is being illuminated and decorated for the show with an adornment line of roses and marigolds at the staircase of the venue. Prominent personalities from television, film and fashion have also been invited to the show.
The show is also a collaborative effort by Wahab Shah Dance Company and Dugdugi Theatre.
‘Dance Day Manao’ will begin with an insightful discourse on classical dance in Pakistan. The panel holds renowned performers like Indu Mitha, Bina Jawwad, Nighat Chaodhry, Shayma Saed and Naila Riaz. The discourse will be moderated by Feriyal Aslam and Sheraz Haider. The discourse will be about the history of classical dance, teaching of this art form, the managerial aspect of the dance as well as the future of classical dancing.
Following the discourse, there will be performances of eminent classical, folk, sufi and modern dancers from all across Pakistan. Performers include Nighat Chaodhry, Wahab Shah, Mani Chao, Amna Mawaz, Ravi Jhumar, Zahra Khalid, Gunga Saen and Mithu Saen Dholiya and many more. The performances will culminate in a collective dhamal giving the International Dance Day Celebrations are perfect ending.
The Institute of Performing Arts is a collaborative project of Nighat Chaodhry Foundation, Wahab Shah Dance Company and Dugdugi. It aims to cater to the tremendous need for the performing arts where all forms of performing arts come together under one roof in order to celebrate life, dance, theatre as an expression of oneself and society.
