THIS refers to Irfan Husain’s article, ‘A house for Zardari’ (May 16).
Lahore is a place where kings like Mughal Emperor Jahangir and Qutbuddin Aibak are buried. It is here in this city that the remains of Ayaz , the courtier of Mahmud Ghaznavi, lie deep in the soil. It was here that Ranjeet Singh once ruled and then was burnt to ashes. Humans live only in the good deeds they do, not in the magnificent edifices or palaces they build. ‘Except the Lord build the house, they labour in vain that build it....’
No Sharif, no Zardari and no Malik Riaz can survive the destroying power of time. I think the writer is expecting much from the children of Asif Ali Zardari when he says to them to give up the riches of his father. No one else ever gave up the hoarded treasures of their forefathers except some sages like Umar bin Abdul Aziz or Siddhartha Buddha.
