Boiler blast death: Four cigarette unit staffers booked

SAHIWAL: Yousufwala police on Tuesday registered a case (307/15) against four employees of a cigarette company 13 days after a mechanic lost his life in a boiler blast at the factory situated at Qadirabad.

On May 13, Abid Ali, a private boiler mechanic, died from burns on factory’s premises and another person, Farooq, suffered injuries when one of the boilers exploded during repair.

Police registered the case on the complaint of Abid’s father Muhammad Azim, a resident of 65/5-L. The complainant said his son was called by the factory management for fixing a fault in a boiler and he died during repairing the ‘dysfunctional’ boiler.

The Yousufwala SHO said the case was registered against Amir Maalik, GM and plant engineer, Khalid, security engineer, Salman, safety engineer, and Azhar, CEO.

Police investigator Muhammad Ashraf said earlier the family had refused to file any case against the factory management and “they had given us an undertaking in writing”.

He said on Tuesday Abid’s father Azim along with a number of villagers blocked Lahore-Multan Road and demanded registration of a case against the company management.
