PESHAWAR: In the wake of the complaints against policemen regarding their involvement in misuse of official powers on the polling day, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Inspector General of Police Nasir Khan Durani has directed action against all those found involved in violating the election code of conduct.
In a circular on Wednesday, the police chief directed all the regional and district police officers that police officials overstepping their authority should be suspended immediately and a charge-sheet prepared against them.
It may be recalled that some poll candidates alleged that police officials supported their opponents during polling.
Mr Durrani took strong exception to these allegations and directed the RPOs and DPOs to probe the allegations in a proper manner. They were further directed to contact the local leadership and ask if they had any proof and video footage to be shared with police to further the inquiry.
The IGP directed the police officers to keep him updated about the action taken in that regard.
