Five suspects killed in Chakiwara ‘encounters’

KARACHI: Five suspected gangsters were shot dead in two separate encounters in Lyari’s Chakiwara area in the early hours of Saturday, officials said.

Personnel of the Pakistan Rangers, Sindh, conducted another intelligence-driven joint targeted operation with the police at around 2:30am in the general area of Wichani Mohallah in Chakiwara against gangsters.

When the Rangers personnel reached near the suspected hideout of criminals, the latter started indiscriminate firing and tried to escape. The troops engaged them, killing three of the suspects while some others escaped in the darkness.

One of those killed was identified as Majid alias Rickshawala, resident of Liaquat Colony in Lyari. He was linked with Shakeel Commando (Uzair Baloch group) and involved in 26 murders, group murders, kidnapping for ransom, robberies and extortion, said a Rangers spokesperson.




The second among the killed was Abdul Samad alias Mulla, resident of Khadda Market in Lyari. He was linked with Furqan alias Yamaha (Uzair Baloch group) and involved in 10 murders/group murders, extortion, robberies and drug peddling.

The third man, Imam Bux alias Khairu, resident of Liaquat Colony, was linked with the Shakeel Commando group and was involved in four murders, robberies, extortion and drug peddling.

In another ‘encounter’ in Bihar Colony, two more suspects were gunned down.

Chakiwara SHO Safdar Mashwani identified the dead men as Arsalan alias Mulla and Junaid alias Kaka. They belonged to the Noor Mohammed alias Baba Ladla group and were wanted in 40 criminal cases, added the officer. The police claimed to have seized hand grenades and other arms and ammunition from their custody.
