Ombudsman opens desk for expats at Lahore airportArchive
LAHORE: Federal Ombudsman Salman Faruqui on Thursday inaugurated one-window facilitation desk at the Allama Iqbal International Airport for overseas passengers.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Faruqui said the establishment of the desk would help solve problems being faced by expatriates who were backbone of the country’s economy.
Ahsaan Ahmad Khokhar, the Grievance Commissioner for Overseas Pakistanis, said the first facilitation desk was established at Benazir Bhutto International Airport, Islamabad, on May 19 this year.
He said representatives of 12 government departments working at the air port, including National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra), Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), Anti Narcotics Force (ANF), Directorate of Passport and Immigration, would be deputed at the desk.
“Such facilitation desk will also be established at Karachi and other international airports in the next couple of months. These desks will make sure resolution of complaints at airports and they will improve the image of government departments,” he said.
Mr Khokhar said almost 7.5 million Pakistanis were living abroad.
The Wafaqi Mohtasib (federal ombudsman) had decided 152,000 complaints of overseas Pakistanis in the last two years.
He said the foreign office had been recommended to make arrangements for hearing of complaints through video links at the Federal Ombudsman’s Secretariat with the Pakistan missions.
He said the Higher Education Commission (HEC) and Foreign Office had been recommended to resolve the issue of attestation of documents of overseas Pakistanis in a systemic manner.
