Flour millers withdraw strike call

LAHORE: After an assurance from the federal government that tax on bran will be withdrawn, the Pakistan Flour Mills Association on Friday withdrew a strike call and promised to supply flour as per routine throughout the country and also to Ramazan bazaars.

At a joint press conference, Provincial Minister for Food Bilal Yasin, accompanied by Pakistan Flour Mills Association Chairman Asim Raza Ahmed, said the association had withdrawn the strike call in the public interest.

The Punjab government, he said, was taking steps for providing relief to the people and ensuring provision of essential items, including flour and sugar, during Ramazan.

The PFMA chairman thanked Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif for conveying the stance of the mills to the prime minister and the federal finance minister and playing an important role in making dialogues with the government successful.

He said the government had assured millers that the GST would be abolished on wheat husk.
