Wapda official receives threatening letterArchive
RAWALPINDI: A senior official of Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) on Tuesday received a threatening letter in which the sender has demanded Rs5 million for the safety of his life.
There was also a bullet shell along with the letter.
On receiving the letter, the victim lodged a complaint with the Race Course police who started investigation into the incident.
In the letter, which was a computer printout, it was written, “life or death, arrange Rs5 million”, a source close to the investigations revealed. The letter did not have any monogram or stamp of any militant organisation.
The police said they were taking the letter seriously and have started investigations.
Though the letter was received by the Wapda official in the morning when he was leaving for his office, he lodged the complaint with the police at night after consulting with his family members and friends.
On Monday, a similar complaint was lodged with Naseerabad police by a local butcher in which he said he had been receiving threatening phone calls for the last few days in which the caller was demanding Rs1 million for his and his family’s safety.
Meanwhile, a lawyer received an SMS suspected to be sent from inside Adiala jail on Monday, in which the sender warned him to be ready to face a fate similar to that of senior judge who was killed outside his house in Rawalpindi recently, police said.
Shortly after receiving the threatening message, the lawyer lodged a complaint with Sadiqabad police who launched an investigation into the message.
According to police sources, the threatening message was sent from a cellphone which had been traced inside the Adiala jail. Use of mobile phone inside the jail is banned.
