Three robbers killed in ‘encounter’

MULTAN: Three robbers were killed in an alleged encounter with police on Nawabpur Road on Saturday.

Reports said that a Qutabpur police team raided the hideout of bandits involved in a robbery at a jewellery shop at Chowk Shah Abbas. They were also involved in various other cases of over 20 million robberies. Getting wind of police raid, bandits escaped, but the police continued chasing them. Later, in a brief shootout, robbers Mehtab Ali, Shahid Anwar and Mashooq Ali were killed.

ROAD BLOCKED: Traders blocked on Saturday the main Hussain Agahi Road near Alamdar Hussain College in protest against the failure of police in arresting a robber who had killed a shopkeeper on resistance.

Reports said that Khwaja Younis Siddiqui of Mohallah Shah Khurm was intercepted by an armed robber on Friday when he was on his way home in a rickshaw. On offering resistance, the robber shot him to death.

The protesting traders dispersed peacefully when senior police officers assured them that the culprit would soon be arrested.
