TMA workers threaten strike over non-payment of salary

KARAK: The members of Employees Union Municipal Administration Karak have threatened to stop performing duty if their demand about payment of salaries is no met by the provincial government.

The municipal employees, during a meeting held here on Wednesday with district president of the union Fareedullah in the chair, decided to stop providing municipal services to the people and lock TMA offices from September 1 if their demands were not met.

They said that the pensions of their retired colleagues had been withheld for the last several months while salaries of the employees were also stopped for the last few months owing to week financial position of the administration.




The participants of the meeting said that it was difficult for them to make both ends meet without getting pensions and salaries. They said that they held several meetings with the provincial local government minister and secretary to devise service structure for them, regularise contractual employees, transfer Contributory Provident Fund (CPF) to General Provident Fund (GPF) and upgrade them.

They said that they also demanded restoration of the quota for employees’ sons but the government didn’t take any step for resolution of their problems.

They participants of the meeting said that provincial government accepted their genuine demands in principle but didn’t take any step for resolution of their basic problems.

They said that TMA employees had not been paid salaries for the last few months. The retired employees were without pensions for the last many months, they said, adding that they were unable to run their kitchens and send their children to school.

They set one week deadline for acceptance of their demands and decided to stop municipal services and lock the offices of TMA after expiry of the deadline.
