500m flyover added to signal-free projectArchive
LAHORE: The signal-free project from Liberty roundabout to Shadman via Jail Road has been amended with construction of a four-lane flyover that will approximately cost Rs400 million.
Sources told Dawn on Friday that the plan to construct a 500-metre-long flyover from near McDonald’s on Main Boulevard, Gulberg, to around 200 to 300 metres before Sherpao bridge via Fawara Chowk has been approved by the authorities.
“The Environment Protection Agency (EPA) has almost agreed to approve the plan after a committee of experts gave a go-ahead recently,” an EPA insider told Dawn.
He claimed the flyover would help save time, energy and fuel cost as well as improve traffic flow.
Initially, the cost of the project was Rs1.5 billion, which has climbed to Rs1.9 billion with the addition of this flyover.
