Gujranwala boiler blast: factory owner arrestedArchive
GUJRANWALA: The Cantonment police arrested on Monday the factory owner for the death of eight workers in a boiler blast near Ghakkhar on GT Road on Saturday.
Maj Altaf Ahmad Cheema retired was at large since the blast. His son Shoaib Altaf Cheema, PML-N district information secretary, factory manager and engineers Saleem, Abbas, Ahmad, Imran and Ashfaq are already in police custody.
Civil Lines SP Nadeem Khokhar said a case had been registered against accused under section 322 (Punishment for qatl-bis-sabab) of the Pakistan Penal Code.
The boiler blast had left eight workers dead and 19 others injured. An inquiry team visited the factory and inspected the installations. The report would be submitted to the chief minister.
Commissioner Shamail Ahmad Khawaja visited on Monday the houses of deceased factory workers and gave compensation cheques to heirs.
CASE: Additional Session Court Judge Abdul Qayyum Khan ordered on Monday a case against civil lines station house officer Arif for not producing witnesses in two murder cases before the court despite the judge had summon them.
PRE-POLL RIGGING: Aspirants to local council polls submitted their complaints with the election commission about pre-poll rigging by the ruling PML-N candidates.
Zulfikar Ahmad from the Jandiala Baghwala Union Council alleged the ruling party candidate was using government machinery and funds in his electioneering which was pre-poll rigging.
Some other candidates also submitted such complaints with the election commission.
