Opp urged to boycott LG polls under current ECPArchive
LAHORE: PML-Q senior leader Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi has asked opposition parties to remain firm on their stance of boycotting the local government elections until resignation of the sitting members of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).
Critical of seven opposition parties announcement of joining hands to go into the local bodies elections, Mr Elahi asked them to refrain from providing relief to the government by making announcements about seat adjustment and alliance for the polls.
In a statement issued on Monday, he said there was no guarantee that LG elections would be held in a free, fair and transparent manner in the presence of the current members of the ECP.
“Rather there is still a doubt whether the government holds the local government polls or not despite electioneering campaigns and activities and huge expenses incurred on them by the candidates,” he said.
Mr Elahi further said the PPP and PTI were also insisting on resignation of the ECP members as there were doubts about their transparency and impartiality.
