KARACHI: Domestic cement despatches rose by 16.89 per cent to 4.29 million tonnes during July-August 2015-16 as compared to 3.67m tonnes in the same period last year.
However, its exports to Afghanistan declined by 18.24pc to 394,500 tonnes from 482,528 tonnes and to India by 28.32pc to 100,437 tonnes from 140,131 tonnes in July-Aug 2014-15.
According to All-Pakistan Cement Manufacturers Association (APCMA) data, cement despatches in August 2015 stood at 3.061m tonnes as compared to 2.776m in the same month last year, an increase of 10.27pc.
Domestic sales during the month were 2.494m tonnes as compared to 1.94m tonnes in August 2014, up by 28.55pc.
In August 2015, domestic despatches in North zone were 2.024m tonnes (1.648m tonnes last year) and 0.470m tonnes (0.30m tonnes last year) in South zone.
Its exports, however, continued to disappoint.
In August 2015, its exports from North zone were 349,873 tonnes (502,845 tonnes last year) while exports from South zone were 216,815 tonnes (324,861 tonnes last year).
Its exports were restricted to only 566,689 tonnes during the month from 827,707 tonnes in August 2014, a decline of 31.54pc.
