PML-N body to select LG poll candidates

SAHIWAL: The district chapter of PML-N formed a selection board to scrutinise candidates who will contest the upcoming local election on the party ticket.

PML-N district secretary general Rao Nazir Farid said the candidates would apply for party tickets for 12 urban union councils of the city. He said application forms would be collected for three days.

Sajid Naeem Happy, who remained Farid Town nazim twice during Musharraf regime, told Dawn that candidates were preferring PML-N ticket as they think that being backed by the party ruling in the province had certain “advantages”.

Provincial minister Nadeem Kamran, who is also district president of PML-N, said the party had issued a “code of conduct” and the candidates would be judged against that.

Both PML-N rivals – PPP and PTI – had yet to invite applications for their tickets for the polls.
