Two shot, injured, ‘robber’ held

RAWALPINDI: Two people were shot and injured during robbery attempts in the Tariqabad locality on Tuesday.

One of the robbers was overpowered by the area people and handed over to the police.

Malik Asghar Awan was going to Lal Kurti to deposit Rs1 million in a commercial bank when he was intercepted by two robbers riding a motorcycle.

Awan told the police that the gunmen forced him to hand them the bag containing the cash. On his resistance, they shot and injured him.

In the meanwhile, the robbers sped off from the scene and later tried to snatch a motorcycle from its owner, Raheel Ahmed.

They also shot and injured Raheel when he refused to hand them the keys of the bike. After hearing the gunshots, people from the neighbourhood reached the spot and overpowered one of the robbers.

Later, police personnel from the Tariqabad post also reached the scene and took the culprit into custody.

However, his accomplice escaped. The police said the arrested robber had recently been released from jail in connection with a murder case.
