NEWS BRIEF : Intikhab appointed Pakistan team manager

LAHORE: Former Pakistan captain and coach Intikhab Alam was on Monday appointed Pakistan cricket team manager after Naveed Akram Cheema stepped down due to his appointment as chairman of the Federal Public Service Commission.

Sources told Dawn that Intikhab’s appointment was made after Cheema had confirmed to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) that he will be unable to travel with the national team for its tour of Zimbabwe which starts from September 24.

Intikhab was previously working as PCB’s Director Domestic Cricket but was free after the PCB abolished the posts of Director Interational and Domestic Cricket recently. Director International Cricket Zakir Khan has been appointed manager of the national U-19 team.

Intikhab, who played 47 Tests and four ODIs, helped Pakistan win the 1992 World Cup and the 2009 World Twenty20 as coach. He was also the manager during Pakistan’s sole World Cup victory.
