Nine dealers arrested for running illegal cattle markets

KOHAT: The administration arrested nine cattle dealers for selling sacrificial animals at different illegal points in Kohat city on Tuesday.

The contractor of the main cattle market has been sustaining big losses due to the growth of illegal cattle markets where the sale is continuing under the nose of district administration.

The sellers have been parading the animals in the bazaar where illegal markets have been created at Tehsil Gate, Bannu Bazaar, PAF Gate No-1, Chakarkot, Rawalpindi road, Hangu road and Defence locality.

Meanwhile, regular buyers of goats are disappointed due to decrease in their number compared to previous years, while rams have been brought in large numbers whose prices are also reasonable.

A buyer, Omer Sanan, present at the Bannu bazaar market, said that they had not been able to find a goat of their choice despite visiting the markets due to their shortage.

He said that the sellers were attributing it to floods which washed away animals in Punjab.

The big animals were also in abundance due to control on smuggling of animals to Afghanistan.

Prices of the ram start from Rs18,000 and that of goat from Rs16,000 and go up as high as Rs70,000.

Previously, the healthy goat could be bought between Rs6,000 to Rs18,000. Prices of big animals too have registered an average increase of Rs20,000 per animal.
