Murder convict’s bid to flee foiled

ISLAMABAD: A murder convict escaped from the heavily-guarded district court premises shortly after he was awarded the capital punishment on Friday.

However, he was later caught and handed over to the police.

Sources said the man was on bail in a murder case and on Friday he appeared in the court of an additional sessions judge in connection with the hearing of the case.

As soon as the judge pronounced the verdict, the convict escaped.

However, the judge’s staff chased and intercepted him on Kaghan Road where he was trying to embark on a vehicle.

He was then brought back to the court premises and handed over to the Koral police as the murder case was registered with them.

The police said the convict along with two other people had murdered Mohammad Sohrab, 36, on May 31, 2010, at Soan Nullah. His two alleged accomplices were already in jail.
