Jewellers announce opposition to Indian trade fairArchive
LAHORE: Lahore Sarafa and Jewellers Association have opposed the upcoming Indian Jewellery Show being held in first week of next month here, with the collaboration of Saarc Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP).
In a joint statement, the association’s President Hafiz Mohammad Ahmed, chairman Haji Afzal, SVP Shehzad Iqbal and general secretary Tahir Mehmood Bhatti said that 12th Saarc Trade Fair-2015 being held at Expo Centre from Dec 4- 6 would actually be a show of Indian jewellers.
They said that `Made in India shows’ held in 2012 and 2014 had already damaged the local industry.
They said it was wrongly considered that the government earned through these exhibitions by imposing custom duties, but the whole delivery was made via Dubai and the money was sent through hundi, bypassing legal banking channels of Pakistan.
