ECP postpones local body polls in Sanghar, BadinArchive
KARACHI: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), on the request of Sindh government, has postponed the local government elections in Sanghar and Badin districts.
The polls in the two districts were scheduled for Thursday, December 17, but the provincial government requested a delay in polls citing the prevailing law and order situation.
Fresh dates for the polls will be fixed after visible improvement in law and order situation in both the districts, said a notification issued by the ECP.
This is the second time that the local body polls in Sanghar have been delayed.
The local government elections in the district were earlier postponed by the ECP following the killing of at least 11 people at Daraza Sharif in Khairpur district during the first phase of polling.
The decision to postpone the election was taken on the basis of reports regarding the possibility of political clashes in Sanghar — amidst calls for revenge for the Khairpur tragedy.
Eight of the 11 people killed in violence on the polling day for the first phase of LG polls, hailed from Sanghar — most of whom were later found to be PML-F supporters.
