Appliances market gutted in PeshawarArchive
PESHAWAR: A fire gutted on Wednesday an appliances market in Ghanta Ghar area of the city here.
Rescue and district government officials told Dawn that the fire started at around 5.30pm which was brought under control at around 8pm.
The blaze gutted about 15 shops and eight godowns. However, it was controlled before it could engulf the nearby buildings, additional deputy commissioner, Peshawar, Irshad Sodhar told Dawn.
He said that though the blaze had been brought under control, he had directed the rescue staff and firefighting vehicles to remain on standby in the area for some time. He said the district administration was looking into the reasons of the blaze.
Mr Sodhar said electricity cables and other items in shops and godowns added to the intensity of the blaze.
Rescue 1122 spokesperson Bilal Ahmed Fiazi said 40 firefighters, eight firefighting vehicles and two water bowsers struggled to contain the fire about three hours. He said Rescue 1122 director general Dr Asad Ali Khan supervised the firefighting effort.
