LAHORE: After an action-packed leg of qualifiers round in Karachi, the Red Bull Neymar Jr’s Five Lahore leg started with a great deal of fanfare as the top clubs from the city got engaged in a fierce battle to outdo each other.
The five-a-side football tournament with games lasting a maximum of ten minutes provided non-stop action with shots at goal almost every other moment of the game.
Like Karachi nearly five dozen teams took part in the opening round of the Lahore leg. After the initial burst, LGS Paragon, Paragon FC, PCHS FC, Royal Regiment and Mighty Five booked their places for the next round from Group A, B, C, D and E respectively.
The teams have been divided in a total of 12 groups; the clubs qualifying for the next round are going to play the knockouts with the quarter-finals, semi-finals and the final match scheduled to take place by the 21st of March at Play On (Bedian Road, Lahore).
After the Lahore leg of the qualifiers round, the capital city Islamabad is going to host their qualifying leg; March 25-27. The three winning teams from the three legs are going to compete in the national finals also to be staged in Islamabad early April.
The national champion will proceed to Brazil later in the year, the city of Santos, the hometown of Neymar Jr. is the battle ground for the Red Bull Neymar Jr’s Five world champion’s title with the tournament expected to see no less than 35 countries battle for top honours.
