Ban on furniture imports soughtArchive
LAHORE: The Pakistan Furniture Council (PFC) on Thursday asked the government to impose a ban on imports of furniture items to fully exploit potential of the local industry.
PFC Chief Executive Mian Muhammad Kashif Ashfaq, in a press statement, said the local manufacturers were facing challenges due to heavy imports of furniture mainly from China.
“Pressure on the domestic industry has immensely increased as other countries like Thailand and South Korea have also started exporting extensively to Pakistan.”
Pakistan imported furniture worth Rs1.69 billion in 2015-16 creating a viable threat of unemployment in the local industry, he maintained.
