COLOMBO: Pakistan national campus cricket champions University of Central Punjab (UCP) continued their impressive run in the Red Bull World Finals here when they beat host Sri Lanka’s Business Management School (BMU) in another clinical performance which ensured them a place in the semi-finals.
Batting first, Sri Lanka’s BMU outfit posted a competitive 170 for nine in the allotted 20 overs. S N Jayasuria flayed the UCP bowling attack in a whirlwind 37-ball 53 that set the stage for the BMU total. Haider Ali was the pick of the UCP bowlers and snapped four wickets for 34 runs in his four overs.
In reply, the UCP successfully chased down the score for the third consecutive time in this event to ensure they top their four team pool with a hundred percent record after beating the UAE and India teams in previous fixtures.
Junaid Ali was in fine form for his team and made light work of the target with an audacious innings of 69 that required a mere 43 balls. Mohammad Mohsin also continued his fine form in the tournament with a 54-run contribution which ensured an easy sailing for his team.
