PESHAWAR: Opening pair of Khurana and Sana Sajjad guided Karachi to a thrilling three-run victory over Peshawar Greens in the final of the All-Pakistan Malik Saad Invitation Women’s Cricket tournament here at Arbab Niaz Stadium on Saturday.
Sana hit a cracking 49, laced with 10 boundaries and one six off 34 balls while Khurana scored another 44 with the aid of seven boundaries off 35 balls to develop an opening partnership of 86 runs.
There was a thunderous applause when Karachi marched as victorious in a dramatically-ended final with Peshawar Greens remaining just three runs short of the winning target.
Earlier, Karachi skipper Ramin won the toss and decided to bat first when her team scored 139 for the loss of four wickets in the allotted 20 overs. Skipper Ramin made 17 with two boundaries and wicket-keeper Najia Alvi made 12, setting up a target of 140 runs for Peshawar Greens to chase.
For Peshawar Greens, Rohida got two wickets for 23 runs in her four-over spell with Samreen and Nousheen getting one wicket each.
In reply, Peshawar scored 136-7 in 20 overs. Peshawar’s batting line-up led by star batter Aysha, who hammered a cracking 73 off 48 balls with seven boundaries and two sixes, could not come up to expectations while chasing the targeted in the stipulated overs.
For Karachi, Rameen and Rida took two wickets each while Yusra, Sana Urooj and Shabnam got one wicket apiece.
