Comedy play helps citizens shed stressArchive
RAWALPINDI: The Rawalpindi Arts Council (RAC) on Monday hosted a performance of a comedy play, Hasna Mana Hai, and invited residents of the twin cities to watch the play free of cost.
The play is set in a restaurant named ‘Welcome Hotel’, the employees of which have different attitudes for different kinds of customers, portraying the cultural issues in society.
The play is written by Yar Mohammad, directed by Lubna Shahzadi and while Masood Khawaja was the executive director.
Masood Khawaja performed as the restaurant’s manager, Yar Muhammad as the security guard, Lubna Shazadi as receptionist.
RAC Resident Director Waqar Ahmed told Dawn the play had been put on to provide free entertainment to residents and promote new actors.
He said the RAC also wanted to do away with the perception that comedy had to be vulgar to be funny and that the council has initiated a week long project for providing free entertainment.
During the week, ‘Gudian Patoley’ will be performed on Nov 22, ‘Chand Meri Zamin on Nov 24, and an Iranian film festival will be held Nov 24 to 26 at the RAC auditorium.
“More plays like this one should be put on at the RAC to provide entertainment, as there are so few recreational activities in the city,” said a member of the audience, Bilal Bhatti.
He said most comedy drams included vulgar puns and that the writers of this play had produced a good script which can be enjoyed by families as well.
