Credit must be given when and where it’s due. The Pakistani Mission in New York’s decision to hold a film festival showcasing Pakistani movies on Dec 3 and 4 was a step in the right direction.
The sociopolitical upheaval that the world is faced with requires a cultural approach to calm things down. Pakistan has a vibrant culture but we are always in the news for all the wrong reasons.
It was nice to hear also from Qasim Bughio of the Pakistan Academy of Letters speaking at the International Urdu Conference in Karachi over the last weekend that the government is working to formulate a formal cultural policy of the country.
We’ve had two cultural policies earlier, both under PPP tenures, but it’s good to see the current government taking culture seriously as well.
