Footfall in cinemasArchive
It has to be said, albeit with a heavy heart, that ever since Indian films have been barred from being shown in Pakistani cinemas, the attendance at multiplexes and single screen halls has come down considerably.
Where Pakistani film-makers once complained of Indian films crowding out their films, they now claim their films are not doing well because they are not getting ‘overflows’ from Indian films. Just can’t please some folks.
But one thing is clear: this was an ill-thought out decision which threatens future film investments too. Pakistani cinema was only just beginning to gather some steam after a disastrous two decades. The last thing it needed was an unnecessary spanner in the works. We hope things are resolved soon but we also hope next time, people look before they jump.
