ISLAMABAD: Lok Virsa organised a Basant song competition on Sunday to celebrate spring, featuring several musicians from across the country.
Executive Director Dr Fouzia Saeed said it was very important to celebrate traditional events such as Basant.
“The presence of a large number of people at today’s event proved that people love to listen to the country’s folk music. Such events not only promote our culture, but are also a great source of entertainment,” she said.
Dressed in yellow, the guests enjoyed the performances, kite stall, food and children’s activities that accompanied the competition.
Some of the other activities included a puppet show for children, a performance by child folk musicians, drummers who performed throughout the day and a bhangra performance.
The song competition jury was made up of Arieb Azhar, Suleman Adil and Yasir Nouman.
The winners in the professional category were Fazal Jutt in first place, Bashir Lohar in second and Rizwana in third.
In the new talent category, Shajia Ikram came first, Umar Latif second and Ayesha Ahmer third.
