KARACHI: Hamdard University defeated Institute of Business Administration (IBA) by 66 runs as Caltex Cricket Extravaganza got off to an exciting start here at the Aga Khan Gymkhana on Tuesday.
Electing to bat first on a seemingly good batting track, Hamdard University posted a sizeable total of 187-6 with M. Saleem smashing 68 runs off 41 balls. IBA were unable to cope with a potent Hamdard bowling attack and hot weather conditions and were finally bowled out for 121 in the 18th over. Saleem was named man-of-the-match.
Leading educational institutions from three major cities of Pakistan — Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad — are featuring in the Caltex Cricket extravaganza. Muhammad Najam Shamsuddin, Country Chairman Chevron Pakistan Lubricants (Private) Limited, inaugurated the event at an impressive opening ceremony by hitting a ball to boundary.
Teams winning city finals will travel to Lahore to play the grand finals between on April 11-12.
