TSH blocks Karakoram Highway to protest 2010 deathsArchive
ABBOTTABAD/MANSEHRA: The activists of Tehreek-i-Sooba Hazara led by Baba Haider Zaman blocked the Karakoram Highway here on Wednesday against the denial of justice to the families of seven people, who were killed by the police firing in 2010 during a pro-Hazara province demonstration in Abbottabad.
They however opened the artery at the intervention of the district police officer and administration officials.
The TSH activists earlier held a ‘protest meeting’ at Jinnah Chowk to mark the seventh anniversary of Abbottabad killings.
Noted among speakers were Baba Haider Zaman, PTI MNA Dawar Khan Kundi, MNA Jamshed Dasti, former MNA Hameedullah Jan Afridi, All Pakistan Muslim League provincial president Kamran Khan, PPP Hazara divisional president Ahmad Hussain Shah, TSH general secretary Sardar Fida and district nazim Sardar Sher Bahadar.
The APML leader read out a message of party leader and former military ruler, Pervez Musharraf, who expressed solidarity with the people of Hazara in their struggle for a separate province. He also paid tribute to the people, who were killed in the 2010 police firing.
Mr Baba Haider said the people of Fata, southern Punjab, Malakand and other areas of the country had begun a joint struggle to have separate provinces for themselves and therefore, the government had no choice but to accept their demand.
He opposed the merger of Fata with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa saying it will be an unwise move on part of the government.
“The right way is to act in line with the will of the people of the tribal region,” he said, adding that putting the residents of Fata under the administrative control of KP would be tantamount to putting them in another cage.
The TSH leader criticised the current Abbottabad MNAs and MPAs for changing the pro-Hazara province stand after their election and said the local residents would avenge them by rejecting them in the next elections.
Former MNA Hameedullah Jan Afridi favoured the TSH. He said the people of Fata would continue fighting for their rights.
MNA Dawar Khan Kundi said the movement for the creation of new provinces had got a new lease of life after the TSH joined it.
He said all members of the movement were committed to using all possible ways and means to claim rights for the development of the people of the neglected regions.
PPP leader Ahmad Hussain Shah said his party fully supported the TSH and promised to turn Hazara into a province after coming to power in the centre.
TSH leaders Sardar Fida Hussain and Sultanul Arfeen said the Hazara police DIG had assured the assured the Tehreek of action against the police officials suspected of involvement in Abbottabad deaths, payment of compensation to the relevant families and provision of jobs to those who were injured in the firing.
In Mansehra, too, the Tehreek-i-Sooba Hazara activists took to the streets to demand dispensation of justice to the families of the victims of Abbottabad police firing.
The rally began from outside the Mansehra Press Club and ended at Khatm-i-Nabowat Chowk here after passing through Mansehra city. It was organised to mark the seventh anniversary of Abbottabad killings.
The protesters held banners and placards and shouted slogans in support of their demands.
Tehreek-i-Sooba Hazara convener Mushtaq Khan Swati complained that the families of the unarmed protesters, who had died in the police firing, had been awaiting justice for the last seven years.
He said the people of Hazara would never withdraw their demand for a separate province and would continue with the peaceful struggle for it.
