Karachi, Lahore set to take on Islamabad, Peshawar in national finalsArchive
KARACHI: The much awaited Qualifiers Round of Lahore and Karachi came to an end on April 15th when ‘Athletico Dejiwani’ from Karachi and ‘Fantastic 5’ from Lahore secured a place for their respective cities for April 23rd the day when winning teams from four cities — Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad and Peshawar - will compete to win ‘Neymar Jr’s Five Pakistan Champion 2017’ title.
It is important to note here that the team that wins the National Finals on April 23rd will then compete with teams from 52 countries at the Neymar Jr’s Five World Finals 2017 in Brazil.
“We’re very excited to have won the Karachi Qualifiers”said Waqas Hussain, Captain of Athletico Dejiwani. “Me and my team are focused on winning the National Finals on April 23rd! We’re prepared and aiming for the best on April 23rd.”said the Captain.
Neymar Jr’s Five made an instant impact in its debut year in 2016, with more than 10,000 teams and 65,000 players in 47 countries, including Pakistan, vying for overall victory in the world’s biggest five-a-side football tournament. This time it will be bigger than ever, with regional qualifiers in 53 countries, including Pakistan, and a rule change giving more players the chance to compete.
The 2017 tournament is again open to teams of five to seven players aged 16 to 25, but for the first time two over-aged players are allowed as part of each squad.
Brazil’s Anjos da Bola, the 2016 Neymar Jr’s Five World Champions, were rewarded with a VIP trip to Barcelona, where they got to spend time with Neymar Jr himself at the FC Barcelona training ground.
