TOBA TEK SINGH: An anti-encroachment operation continued on the second consecutive day on Friday near Forest Park here on Jhang Road.
Dozens of houses were razed to the ground on state land of Chak 325-JB Dullam under the supervision of Assistant Commissioner (AC) Muhammad Shafiq and tehsildar Tariq Gondal.
The AC claimed that more than 200 kanal of state land worth billions of rupees had been retrieved from land grabbers.
On Thursday, residents of the houses that were razed had blocked Toba-Jhang road for half an hour to protest the demolition of their houses.
PROTEST: Scores of people took out a procession in Gojra against the municipal committee (MC) over choked sewerage lines.
Residents of Jamil Park, Hasnia Colony, Mughalpura, Ali Prak and other areas were led by runner-up in NA-92, Osman Hamza, of the PTI and councillors Mudassar Jamil and Ghulam Abbas Lucky.
The protesters told reporters that sewage flowed through their streets and houses, but the MC chairman and officials were not paying any attention. They were shouting slogans of ‘Go Nawaz Go’.
They reached the municipal complex where Chairman Mian Muhammad Islam held talks with them. He assured them that their problem would be solved at the earliest over which they ended their protest.
DIES: A farmer died after he was crushed under the tyre of his tractor in Chak 157-GB near Gojra on Friday.
Police said Muhammad Ashraf was driving his tractor on his farm when suddenly he fell off it while crossing a ditch. Resultantly, he was crushed under the tyre of the tractor and died instantly.
