Tanker accident disrupts rail trafficArchive
SAHIWAL: Rail traffic remained suspended for hours when an LPG tanker veered off Lahore-Multan highway while saving a car near 132/9-L village on Wednesday morning.
After initial efforts, the local administration called out a railway carriage crane from Khanewal to clear the track.
Eyewitnesses said the tanker which was on its way to Karachi veered off the road when its driver tried to save a rashly-driven car. The heavy load proved a blessing in disguise as the vehicle dashed against mud just short of the railway track.
The motorway and district police, district administration, civil defence and Rescue 112 personnel had the area cordoned off and they supervised the operation.
District Coordination Officer Shaukat Khichi said a heavy crane (railway carriage) was called out from Khanewal. He said the railways suspended its operation on one track and used single (down) track for all trains running between Lahore and Khanewal.
Efforts ware made to pull back the tanker till last reports came in.
