Traders announce boycott of American productsArchive
PESHAWAR: Leaders of various local trader bodies unanimously adopted a resolution on Wednesday announcing the boycott of American products and the staging of a joint rally in the city today (Thursday) to condemn US President Donald Trump’s diatribe against Pakistan.
The resolution was adopted during a joint news conference on the Peshawar Chamber of Small Traders and Small Industry (PCSTI) premises.
The speakers said the new US policy on Afghanistan was an insult to the huge sacrifices rendered by Pakistan’s law-enforcement and security personnel and civilians during the prolonged war against terrorism.
Say they’ll stage a joint rally against Trump threats today
Accompanied by PCSTI president Shakil Ahmed, Anjuman-i-Tajiran Peshawar Shaukat Ali and Tajir Ittehad University Road president Khalid Ayub, Markazi Tanzeem-i-Tajiran provincial president Haji Malik Mehr Ilahi said Trump’s diatribe against Pakistan had hurt the local businessmen, who would boycott the US products until the US president tendered a public apology to Pakistan.
He said the US president had used derogatory language against Pakistan just to please India without realising that such remarks would turn the strong supporters of the US (Pakistanis) away.
Mr Ilahi said businessmen would fully support security forces in case of any foreign attack against Pakistan.
He said the anti-Pakistan tirade by Trump was insult for the entire Pakistani nation, which, especially business community, rendered matchless sacrifices during the war against terrorism and suffered huge losses but even then, the US was pressuring Pakistan to do more against terrorism.
The trader leader said Pakistanis loved peace and had always played a very effective role against terrorism during the last one decade.
He asked the government to take effective steps for the management of Pak-Afghan border to stop infiltration from Afghanistan into Pakistan.
Mr Ilahi said the joint rally against the US president would be taken out today (Thursday) at 3pm from Chowk Yadgar to Kabuli Chowk.
He said the rally would also announce full support and cooperation for the Pakistan Army in case of any foreign aggression against the country.
