Four Mepco poles collapse as truck hits dangling wiresArchive
SAHIWAL: Four Mepco poles along with five 100-KV transformers fell down on the road on Saturday when a truck hit the dangling high voltage wires on Sahiwal Road, ?Pakpattan, causing a great deal of inconvenience to commuters from Nageena Chowk to Darbar Chowk. ?
According to eyewitnesses, the electricity poles were not installed deep under the ground. They said when the truck’s top hit the dangling wires, the poles collapsed, suspending power supply.
After being alerted Rescue 1122 rushed to Nageena Chowk and contacted Mepco officials who switched off electricity supply.
No one suffered any injury in the incident. The truck driver managed his escape. Traffic between Nageena Chowk and Darbar Chowk was suspended and power supply could not be restored till the filing of the report at 6:30pm.
Deputy Commissioner Irfan Ahmed Sindho visited the site and asked Mepco officials to make a list of ‘weak’ poles.
Meanwhile, Markazi Anjuman-i-Tajran President Haji Waseem told this correspondent that traders had time and again filed complaints with Mepco for repair.
Mepco Sahiwal Region EXEN Khalid told Dawn on phone that electricity would be restored by [Saturday] evening as all poles were being replaced along with [new] transformers.
