LAHORE: The National Accountability Bureau on Thursday arrested the president of the Public Health Engineering Cooperative Housing Society on charges of misuse of authority.
According to NAB, suspect Malik Sajjad Haider allegedly misused his authority and illegally allotted plots to ‘blue-eyed persons.’
During the course of preliminary investigation, it has been revealed that the suspect is also involved in ‘China-cutting’ of the society plots.
On Wednesday, NAB had arrested three suspects – Dr Muhammad Shafiq, Mian Muhammad Aslam and Sheikh Rashid Mehmood – for their involvement in the housing scam.
The bureau said the four suspects were involved in commission of the scheduled offence of corruption by cheating public at large and alleged financial embezzlement being committed by them.
It said Malik Sajjad Haider being president of the housing society in alleged abetment with the suspects made illegal allotments in favour of their favourite persons without proper approval from the management committee’s annual general meeting of the registrar cooperatives.
The suspects got tampered with official record and also got allotted plots to their benamidars, hence, approximately more than 50 plots were transferred anonymously to their favourites.
NAB said Sajjad Haider also embezzled hefty amounts from the official funds designated for the development work of the members of the cooperatives housing society. The physical remand of Sajjad Haider has been taken after producing him before an accountability court.
Meanwhile, the chief executive of six public companies appeared before NAB, Lahore, on Thursday in the case of income beyond their sources.
