PM irked by Balochistan bureaucracy’s performance

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Wednesday expressed displeasure over what he called the ‘poor’ performance of the bureaucracy of Balochistan in addressing people’s problems.

In a letter to the chief secretary, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) said: “Officials of Balochistan and other employees are committing negligence in redressing people’s problems.”

It said: “Government servants should serve the people and action must be taken against those involved in negligence in their duties.”

The letter noted that Balochistan ranked last among all provinces of the country in terms of disposal of public complaints.

It said a complaint cell called Pakistan Citizen Portal established at the PMO was constantly monitoring the performances of the provinces.

The chief secretary was informed that the prime minister was frequently apprised about the performances of the provinces.

The letter noted that the government of Balochistan has resolved only 800 complaints out of 4,791 received so far.

“This shows that only 17 per cent of total complaints were disposed of by the Balochistan’s bureaucracy”, while 115 complaints were time-barred.

It said the provincial departments have been given 53 portal accounts and 41 of them have zero performance.

The letter said the Balochistan government officials had also been given timely guidelines so that they could discharge their duties effectively, but even then their performance was not up to the expectations.

“Resolving people’s problems and providing ease to them is a mission of the prime minister,” it added.
