Laying wreaths on APS monument fails to solace dejected parentsPakistan
PESHAWAR: The politicians and members of civil society organisations visited Army Public School (APS) and laid floral wreaths on the monument there to pay homage to the killed students on the occasion of Eidul Fitr but the parents of the slain students called it just a photo session.
The dejected parents said that instead of laying wreaths on the monument, those people should raise voice for the arrest of the officials, who collected security fee from them but failed to provide security to their children when terrorists attacked the school last year.
According to statements issued here on Monday, the leaders of different political parties and members of civil society organisations paid rich tributes to the killed students of APS and urged the government to take decisive steps for eradication of terrorism and restoration of peace in the country.
Qaumi Watan Party chairman Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao and Pakistan People’s Party women wing leader Asma Alamgir and people belonging to different organisations visited Yadgar-i-Shuhada at APS and paid homage to the killed students.
However, the parents of the killed students described it a photo session. “We do not want people to use the name of our children for personal fame.
If they really want to share grief with us they should force the government to take action against those responsible for the security of APS,” Ajoon Khan, the general secretary of Shuhada Forum, told Dawn.
He said that the school administration charged Rs500 from each student in the name of security but left them at the mercy of terrorists.
“Where has gone the money, collected for security? Where are the people, who had collected money from us,” he questioned.
Mr Khan said that rulers failed to pay any heed to the grief stricken parents on the occasion of Eidul Fitr. “Our government is not ready to listen to us but the only option left with us is to raise our voice at UN for seeking justice,” he added.
In a statement, Mr Sherpao said that the nation would not forget the blood of their children, killed by terrorists last year. He said that his party would support every effort to eliminate terrorism.
The QWP chief laid floral wreath on Yadgar-i-Shuhada and offered Fateha for the killed students. QWP provincial chairman Sikandar Hayat Khan Sherpao, information secretary Tariq Ahmad Khan, Fata chairman Asad Afridi, secretary social media Nasreen Khattak and Mohammad Ibrar Khalil were also present on the occasion.
Similarly, PPP leader Asma Alamgir during her visit to Yadgar-i-Shohada laid floral wreath on the monument and appreciated the sacrifices of the slain studnets.
She said that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif should take firm decision to hit hard the enemies of humanity. She said that the sacrifices of the killed students would not go waste because that tragic incident helped to unite the entire nation against terrorists.
Ms Alamgir appreciated security forces for rendering sacrifices during operation Zarb-i-Azb. She said that the nation was united to support the armed forces against terrorism.
Asma Alamgir was accompanied by PPP senior activists Gohar Ali, Ghazanfar Ali, Jahanzeb Khan, Arbab Zarak Khan, Ijaz Khan and Zar Khan.
