Raid on MQM offices: London court allows police to keep seized cash
Pakistan
KARACHI: A court in London granted three more months to the metropolitan police on Wednesday to keep hundreds of thousands of pounds they had seized during raids as part of a money laundering investigation.
Certain leaders of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement, including its chief Altaf Hussain, and an individual, Sarfraz Merchant, were arrested and later granted bail in the money laundering case against them.
A statement issued by the MQM from London said: “We confirm that a hearing was held today in a West London magistrate’s court in respect of a civil case of cash seized from premises in London.
“No MQM man had been summoned to this hearing, nor did any of them seek a delay in appearance,” it added.
The British police had seized a large amount of cash during raids on certain places relating to the MQM, including Mr Hussain’s London residence.
