‘Murderer’ of ex-minister’s nephew surrenders

RAWALPINDI: The prime suspect wanted in connection with the murder of the nephew of former Punjab law minister, Basharat Raja, surrendered on Wednesday.

Ikhlaq Ahmed had been on the run since Raja Shoaib Iqbal was killed on the day of the LG elections in Dhamial, and is the main suspect in the case.

Ikhlaq’s brother, Asad Mehmood, a PML-N candidate for the LG polls, and his father Jan Nasar had already been arrested. SP Saddar Division Ghayas Gul confirmed that Ikhlaq Ahmed had been arrested and that all of those nominated in the murder case were arrested as well. He said a challan will be completed and submitted in the courts soon.

According to police sources, the SP will conduct an inquiry into the case on Friday to determine if Asad Mehmood had been at the crime scene at the time of the murder.




Ikhlaq will be produced before a court for remand custody.
