ISLAMABAD: Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif has expressed optimism about the resumption of Afghan peace talks.
He told the Voice of America that peace in Afghanistan was necessary for the whole region and Pakistan would continue to support the dialogue process.
“Every step which is being taken for peace in Afghanistan is important for the region. Peaceful Afghanistan is very important for Pakistanis,” he added.
The common purpose of Pakistan and Afghanistan is to establish peace which is vital for us so that we may get rid of terrorism, he added. Khawaja Asif said that Pakistan would play its role in establishing peace in Afghanistan.
“We are putting in serious efforts for peace in Afghanistan and hope that rest of the three countries – (in the quadrilateral coordination group) Afghanistan, China and the United States – will also make serious efforts,” he said.
