ECP rejects Kamal’s plea for registration of his partyPakistan
ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission rejected on Friday the application of MQM dissident Mustafa Kamal for registration of his Pak Sarzameen Party on the ground that all required documents were not attached with the application.
Informed sources told Dawn that neither the constitution and manifesto of the party had been attached nor any information about assets provided.
An official of the ECP said that under section 1 of the Political Parties Order 2002, every party was to formulate its constitution, outlining its aims and objectives, organisational structure at the federal, provincial and local levels, criteria for membership, membership fee, qualifications and tenure of the party leader and other office-bearers, criteria for receipt and collection of funds and procedure for election of party leader and other office-bearers.
He said that the constitution was required to spell out mechanism for resolution of disputes among party members.
He said that every political party was required to provide a copy of its constitution and manifesto to the Election Commission, besides statement of assets and sources of funds.
He said that political parties were also supposed to provide details of intra-party elections and in case of a new political party, the structure of its interim body.
In reply to a question, he said that Musatafa Kamal’s party could re-submit its application along with required documents for registration.
