PTI begins early polls preparations

ISLAMABAD: Foreseeing early general elections in 2017, the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) has formed a parliamentary board of the party for polls preparation and a mass contact campaign.

The party has also constituted its political committee to hold public meetings in different cities. The meetings would apprise people about the proceedings of the Supreme Court on Panamagate case.

The PTI made these decisions in its core committee meeting held at the residence of PTI chairman Imran Khan in Banigala on Wednesday.

“2017 is the year of election as the present government will not stay anymore,” PTI vice chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi said while talking to media persons after the core committee’s meeting.

He said the parliamentary board will prepare the party for possible early elections and campaign for public contact will start from Wednesday.

Besides meeting local leaders of the PTI at district and tehsil levels, the party will also make contacts with other opposition parties for alliance in the next polls.

According to a source, as mentioned by Imran Khan, the PTI was disappointed by the Supreme Court and would come on streets again to lodge protest against the government.

Mr Qureshi said the public meetings programme will be chalked out in two days after approval of the party chief.

Answering a query about the PTI’s return to parliament after an interval of two months, he said the party had decided to go to parliament to expose the prime minister’s ‘lies’ regarding the Sharif family’s offshore accounts in the National Assembly.

Talking about the Pakistan Peoples Party’s (PPP) campaign against the government, Mr Qureshi said PTI would support any such move against the ‘corrupt’ government.

He discussed how the PTI and PPP could work together in their efforts against the government with opposition leader Syed Khurshid Shah.
